Holiday Message for Boxing Fans

December 2003 – WOMEN’S BOXING ARCHIVE NETWORK: The word holiday really means holy day.  With the holy days upon us, this is a time when we should reflect deeply on our lives and our relationships.  It is a time for us to reflect on our individual choices and how we each play a unique part in bringing peace into the world. This is a time for us to surround each other with love, tolerance, and acceptance and reach out to everyone with a smile, and an open heart. Reflecting on our lives, we ask ourselves many questions.  Am I as loving as I could be?  Am I as patient as I could be?  Where am I harboring hatred, and toward whom?  Where am I being judgmental, and toward whom?  Am I showing up fully in my life? Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, you can appreciate the symbolism of the birth of Christ.  The symbolism is of giving birth to the gifts, blessings, and talents that Spirit (God, Allah, Yahweh, Krishna, Om) has given each of us. Ask yourself if you are willing to give birth to Love in all areas your life.  Are you willing to let Love guide all of your decisions?  Candles give light, trees give fruit, and the sungives warmth and light.  All of nature gives unselfishly.  Why should the human experience be any different, or any less?  We, as human beings, are born to give love. The place that we are meant to give love is in our relationships with others.  There are times when we are tempted to express anger at our neighbor.  There are times when we are tempted to gossip about a friend.  There are times... read more

One Fan’s List

by Anonymous | August 26, 2003 Sumya Anani is not just an amazing boxer.  She’s an inspiration to myself as well as others I’m sure.  Ofcourse what draws many to her is her ability to mix it up in the boxing ring and entertain us with her skill.  After having read her last two articles posted on WBAN I have come to the realization of two other reasons why I admire Sumya.  1) she is a gifted writer who speaks and writes with an eloquence that is equal to her punching power.  And 2) she is unabashed, uninhibited and willing to give credit where credit is due.  Following her list of Women Fighters that she admires I read her request that other fighters and fans extend their respect and thanks as she had just done.  Well as you can probably tell, that little bit hit the mark and so here follows one boxing fans list of the fighters that I admire. In alphabetical order: 1)Jennifer Alcorn~ Mia St. John was correct when she proclaimed that Jennifer was a perfect physical specimen.  For once I can agree with Mia as Jennifer is a poster girl for the desired result of anyone who works hard to maintain their physical lifestyle.  Furthermore she is a hard puncher and is willing to be the aggressor no matter what the toll on her body. 2)Sumya Anani~ It is very disheartening that more people do not know of this lady.  She is a truly genuine and kind person.  I have had the honour and privilege of corresponding with Sumya for sometime now and can honestly... read more
